Hotels with free Wi-Fi
« on: November 28, 2009, 01:46:36 AM »

Hi everybody!

Recently I was searching for a good 4* or 5* hotel in Egypt where my wife could relax, while I stay working. Thus I needed a hotel with free internet in rooms (or conference room), preferably wifi. This is a very common thing for European hotels but almost impossible to find in Egyptian ones. Who knows why?

Most 5* hotels in Egypt have wifi in lobby bars, but quality is bad while price is unreasonably high. According to some tourists feedbacks, you can hardly use skype and pay for that 140 pound per day. I wonder, why any 5* hotel wants charge customers for wifi? When you buy UAI (Ultra All Inclusive) pack, you can drink Tequila for free but still have to pay for Internet? That's crazy.

I found 2 or 3 hotels with free wifi, but they all had lots of negative feedbacks, concerning food or service. Who can explain what's going on or recommend something?

Hello Ruslano,

There are no problems with wifi Internet coverage in Egypt at present time because Etisalat and Vodafone mobile network providers support 3G Broadband services. All of them are accessible from any Hotel in Egypt. You can use 3G internet during a travel tour to Cairo to visit pyramids or maybe even in desert if you can get mobile network signal. Quality of internet is good. But actually you should remember that nothing works perfect in Egypt.

How much it costs: about $30 for a 3G modem and then $30 per month. You can also buy prepaid plan. You must have a passport for registration (but sometimes it is not required). Activation takes about an hour or maybe less.
I recommend you Etisalat - they are more friendly and clever specialists. Vodafone is good in service and targeted to business customers. Their offices are located close to each other. Look at google maps in their listings at iRedSea.com: http://iredsea.com/red-sea-mobile-network-operators-c-248_294.html
Also, visit their websites to learn more about pricing and services.

If you are going to visit Hurghada I can recommend Sun Rise hotels. As I know they are all pretty good in service.
A list of Sun Rise hotel with contact details you can find at Red Sea Directory of iRedSea website:

All MacDonalds have free Wi-Fi. Ofcause it is not something that can be used for work but....
Some cafes have free wifi also. There are many internet cafes in Hurghada also...
